Jose Mourinho leaves Manchester United: Manchester United have parted ways with Jose Mourinho.
Manchester United have parted ways with Jose Mourinho, two days after the 3-1 loss against Liverpool at Anfield.
The club released a statement following the sacking of Portuguesegese manager.
“Manchester United announces that manager Jose Mourinho has left the club with immediate effect,” the statement read.
“The club would like to thank Jose for his work during his time at Manchester United and to wish him success in the future.
“A new caretaker manager will be appointed until the end of the current season, while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new, full-time manager.”
Jose Mourinho was appointed as the manager of the side in 2016, and won the Europa League and EFL Cup in his first season at the club. After leading the side to 2nd place-finish in the league in 2017/18, Manchester United slumped heavily this season
Mourinho leaves Manchester United after 17 Premier League games in charge of his third season, as the club is sixth with 26 points on the table.
During his time at the club, Mourinho won three trophies with Manchester United, and led the side to the final of the FA Cup last season, where they were defeated by Chelsea.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to the sacking:

The inevitable has happened. Want to say what have you done @ManUtd … but there’s no point after everything that happened this season. Inevitable. Good luck to the club going ahead because Jose Mourinho was not the ONLY problem, but perhaps the easiest one to solve.

Mourinho, a Champions League coach took a Europa League job at #ManUtd because his reputation was tainted by the Eva Carneiro incident which lost him the dressing room at #cfc. He won the Europa but other coaches have superseded him. #mufc still looking to replace Fergie.

176 – Manchester United won 176 Premier League points since the appointment of Jose Mourinho as manager; fewer than Manchester City (222), Tottenham Hotspur (202), Chelsea (200) and Liverpool (196). Departure. pic.twitter.com/WknQQE9bsP

Understandable outcome – team disorganised, mood a mess – but #mufc problems run deeper than Jose Mourinho. Need a sporting director, need more character in the dressing room, need defenders. Whole footballing operation needs new direction, energy and ideas. https://t.co/6qhggeYPg7
