Jose Mourinho opens out about the amount of say he had on transfers and the trust he had from the board at Manchester United.

Jose Mourinho was clearly not the happiest person at Manchester United. The former Red Devils manager made it clear that he was in active search for a top-notch centre-back in the transfer market when was in the helm.

The Portuguese International appeared a guest in Bein Sports earlier and questioned about the transfer powers he had at Old Trafford.

When he was asked if what when wrong during his stint at Manchester United, Jose Mourinho started to compare the hierarchy Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola built at Liverpool and Manchester City respectively.

He said “How many players were there [at Liverpool] before Jurgen arrived?

“When Pep was not happy with the four full-backs that he had, and in the same summer he bought the four full-backs he liked. When he was bought one goalkeeper like Claudio Bravo, he was not happy with Claudio Bravo, and bought Ederson next season.”

It’s classic Jose. The Portuguese international has the highest net spent since he took over Manchester United in 2016. However, he was able to win two titles during his first season, and regain a place in the Champions League.

Liverpool have always been close to the success, but the failure to clear the final hurdle has been the biggest headache for Jurgen Klopp. They have played in three different finals, but haven’t won them all.

However, he has been backed significantly in the transfer market as he was able to make the signings of Alisson Becker, Virgil Van Dijk, Fabinho, and Naby Keita who were involved in big money signings. Jose Mourinho was quick to point out the trust Liverpool board has on Jurgen Klopp.

“When Jurgen is in the club [Liverpool], and wins absolutely nothing for three-and-a-half years and he still the trust and the confidence and he still has the conditions to keep going and going and probably this season they have a big chance to do it. But it’s the first time they win a trophy.”

Jose Mourinho has been having a significant say in the transfer wherever he went. But, the failure to sign a centre-back in the transfer window and rift with Paul Pogba were enough to destroy the team mentality.

He has already rejected three approaches in one month, including one from SL Benfica.  The former Chelsea manager says that he would be careful about all the controls before he decides to join elsewhere.

“That’s what I was asking before that in my next job. I will not be starting a conversation with a club without knowing exactly what the club wants and what the club has to give in terms of structure and in terms of club objectives.”

Jose Mourinho has been linked with a move back to Real Madrid, but it remains to be seen if an offer arrives elsewhere.
