Kagiso Rabada to miss Johannesburg Test after earning demerit point for celebrating Joe Root's wicket

Kagiso Rabada to miss Johannesburg Test: The South African fast bowler has been sanctioned with a demerit point.

During the first day of the third Test of the ongoing England’s tour of South Africa in Port Elizabeth, South Africa fast bowler Kagiso Rabada bowled a ripper of a delivery to dismiss England captain Joe Root.

However, Rabada’s celebration post dismissing Root has brought him under the spotlight as he has been found guilty of a level one offence. In addition to earning a demerit point, Rabada has also been handed a fine of 15% of his match fee.

The 24-year old fast bowler was found to have breached article 2.5 of the ICC code of conduct for “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match”.

In the past, Rabada has been punished for several incidents with India opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan and the Australian duo of Steve Smith and David Warner.

The addition of another demerit point means that Rabada will miss the fourth Test match of the series against England at Johannesburg which will begin on January 24.

Rabada accepted the offence sanctioned by match referee Andy Pycroft after Stumps on Day 1. It is worth mentioning that the Proteas bowler will miss a Test for the second time due to discipline issues. It is also worth mentioning that Rabada getting banned hasn’t gone down well with many prominent faces.
