Klay Thompson injury: Klay forced out with a knee injury, returns to court to take free throws in the most heroic way possible

Klay Thompson was almost in his Game 6 mode. he had 28 points and had just buried a deep contested 3, leading to the already loud Oracle arena going completely nuts.

But the post season of pain caught up to Klay Thompson as a fastbreak for the Warriors produced an open dunk for Klay, whi generally prefers to lay it in, instead of doing something fancy, but this game and this crowd demanded a dunk and Klay Thompson went for it.

He was fouled from behind by Danny Green and landed very awkwardly on his knee. The Oracle arena had the wind knocked out of it as Klay stayed on the floor clutching his knee and writhing in pain.

The Warriors have had an incredible amount of injuries this series and all of them have happened to players who are crucial to the Warriors. An injury to Klay was the last thing the Warriors needed after KD went down for likely a year with the Achilles tear in game 5.

The crowd stayed shell shocked as Thompson was helped by Warriors staff to the locker room. Warriors GM Bob Myers went with him and this was a deja vu the Warriors really didn’t want. But as the mood looked sour and Steph Curry sat alone on the opposite end of the court, desolate at losing another player, Klay Thompson came running back onto the field.

The Warriors crowd absolutely lost its mind. Klay going out without shooting his Free Throws would rule him out for the game as the rules would not allow him to come back in. Plus the Raps would get to pick who would shoot the Free Throws and Andre Iguodala is shooting 41% from the charity stripe. So Klay came back and buried his 2 Free Throws.

Thompson wanted to stay in but Bob Myers was not going to take that risk again. He visibly shook his head and asked Thompson to go to the locker room.

The next report came that Thompson was doing drills and jumping up and down, ready to come back into the game. But less than a minute later Doris Burke came back on screen to say that Thompson had been ruled out for the game.

The Warriors jumbotron later showed Thompson walking away from the arena on crutches and if the Warriors make it to game 7, Thompson’s availability will be a big question.
