During the 2019 World Cup final ‘battle of the Crown’ match between England and New Zealand at the Lord’s Cricket Ground, the on-field umpire for the grand event- Kumar Dharmasena has been subject to the target of trolls for his relatively poor umpiring standards so far in the first innings.
The first error came quite early on in the innings- in the third over after New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson opted to bat first despite the overcast conditions and a relatively greener pitch.

On the third delivery of the over, England all-rounder Chris Woakes bowled a great delivery that nipped-back at the Kiwi left-hander Henry Nicholls. The ball struck him right in front of the stumps, and Kumar Dharmasena was quick to raise his finger.
Nicholls, after a quick interaction from his partner Martin Guptill went in for the lone review in the dying seconds. It was a bang on review, as the ball went over the stumps, courtesy a bouncy Lord’s deck.
Dharmasena errs again
Yet another umpiring error by Dharmasena happened on the fourth delivery of the 23rd over. Liam Plunkett bowled a cross-seamed length delivery outside the off-stump to which the Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson tried to drive past the cover region.
But, their was a clear edge as the ball went past the bat, and the England players going up in unison was a testament to it. But, Dharmasena did not hear anything at all and ruled it in Williamson’s favour.
English skipper Eoin Morgan wasted not even a fraction of second to go for the review and the UltraEdge showed a big nick as the ball went past the bat, inviting criticisms and trolls of the fans on social media.
