Lionel Messi just keeps shattering records for fun. The top scorer in Barcelona’s history has shattered another record after coming on as a substitute against Leganes in the La Liga.

Before the game in the pre-match press conference, Ernesto Valverde spoke about the necessity to rotate the squad as the ties are coming thick and fast following the winter break.

The reigning Spanish Champions were just two points shy of Atletico Madrid in the League table and they should not afford to drop points against a midtable club like Leganes at Nou Camp. Hence, they pressed for the victory and triumphed the game by three goals to one.

The Catalans opened the scoring through the French International Ousmane Dembele in the first half which was canceled out by Carlos Braithwaite who scored from close ranger twelve minutes into the second half.

Lionel Messi came on in the 63rd minute and made an enormous impression. The Argentine striker the ball cleanly from outside the box which was saved by the shot-stopper Ivan Cuellar, but he was helpless when Luis Suarez was there to tap-in from two yards out to lead the game for the second time of the night.

Leganes were continuously terrorizing Barcelona’s defense, but a third from Lionel Messi with his right foot assured yet another victory for the Catalans as they hope to come away as La Liga victors again.

With that fantastic striker from the substitute Lionel Messi, he broke yet another record by scoring the most number of goals with 22 coming as a substitute in the La Liga’s 21st century.

With this goal, he took his overall tally to 577 for the Spanish outfit and 401 in the Spanish top tier. Being the first name on the teamsheet, it’s impressive to see Lionel Messi shatter another record by coming on a substitute.

He carries another impressive record by scoring 34 goals in 76 substitute appearances coming on from the bench for Barcelona. To score one goal in every two games coming on as a substitute is truly a remarkable foot for the Argentine.

There is no doubt that he would be able to play for another few years at the top level. There is every possibility to see Pele getting outscored by Lionel Messi. The Brazilian notched up 619 goals for his club, Santos.
