Lionel Messi Edinson Cavani fight: The Argentine star challenged to a fight by Cavani earlier in the match between Argentina and Uruguay at the Bloomfield Stadium in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Argentina and Uruguayan played out a 2-2 draw in a friendly match. However, the proceedings during the match were anything but friendly. Argentina captain and Barcelona star, Lionel Messi and PSG Star Edinson Cavani were reportedly involved in a tunnel fight.

The seeds for the bust-up was planted during the match itself. The pair were involved in a heated exchange earlier in the match. According to Argentine newspaper Ole, Cavani was spotted on camera suggesting he wanted to brawl with Messi during the match.

Ole claim Messi said ‘whenever you want’ in response as Uruguay defender Diego Godin was seen putting his arm around Messi to try and diffuse the situation.

The fight would then take place later in the tunnel according to Goal, who report that the pair had to be broken by Luis Suarez.

Cavani later tried to downplay the situation in a post-match interview with ESPN.

 ‘It was a classic, a very friction match with strong entries such as South American football. 

‘On both sides there are good things. We leave with a positive feeling and we try to play football. Then it was already a classic, we live it like this.’   

Two matches, two controversies

This is the second instance of Lionel Messi having a scuffle with the opposition in just 4 days. The Argentine captain also had a bust up with Brazil coach Tite during Argentina’s 1-0 win over their South American rivals.

Messi looked at Tite and put his fingers on his lips to tell him to shut up after the Brazilian coach pleaded to the referee to hand him a yellow card .
