Barcelona superstar and arguably the world’s best Lionel Messi is reported to be unhappy with Barcelona’s head coach Ernesto Valverde. Despite Barcelona getting off to an unbeaten start in all tournaments post their humiliating defeat at the hands of Zidane’s Real Madrid.

The team has been in some tremendous form and were able to grind out victories at difficult venues such as in the New San Memes, where they were victors 2-0 against Valverde’s former side.

According to Spanish news outlet Don Balon, Messi did not appreciate the selection of Andre Gomes as a winger in a crucial match for the Catalan side. The Portuguese were no-doubt one of the worst players on the field for the Catalan giants, his selection has raised a lot of doubts in the past too.

Messi preferred Denis Suarez over Gomes:

The same outlet further said that Messi preferred the Spanish midfielder Denis Suarez on the wing over the Portuguese. Messi opened the scoring for the La-Liga leaders just before the half-time, with a neat finish past Athletic’s custodian.

Athletic’s fire-power did trouble Marc Ter Stegen on the pitch, but the German stopper was the man of the match for Barcelona saving his team from blushes time and again.

Raul Garcia headed against the bar from a corner, while Aritz Aduriz missed a 1-on-1 hitting the ball at a slower pace drawing a tidy save from Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Late in the game, Athletic failed to stop the counter-attack from Barcelona as the Brazilian midfielder Paulinho finished off the move with the simplest of tap-ins to secure Barcelona’s lead over Valencia in the Liga.

Gomes’ poor form continues at Barcelona, and it most likely looks like the Portuguese midfielder might just be shipped out to this transfer window after failing to secure a move away from the Catalan side in May.
