Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp confirms Sadio Mane return date ahead of Community Shield clash against Man City

Sadio Mane will return to the pre-season camp after the community shield clash.

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that their forward Sadio Mane will return to the pre-season training on August 5. The Senegalese International will watch his side from the sidelines when they take on Manchester City in the Community Shield clash at Wembley Stadium a day before.

The forward kick-started his off-season after losing 1-0 to Algeria in the AFCON final last Friday. The 27-year-old will spend his holidays for two weeks before returning back to Liverpool. He is anticipated to take part against Norwich City in the opening day of the Premier League season at Anfield.

Klopp said: “He is in good shape,”

“Obviously they had a celebration in Senegal and I’m happy about that because it showed that they respect the competition and saw the second place as a success, which is nice.

“He is now on holiday, not the longest one – he will be back on August 5, after the Manchester City game. That means he had two weeks. There is four or five days to prepare for Norwich, 10 days for Chelsea [in the UEFA Super Cup].”

Sadio Mane was a cardinal player for Liverpool last season, helping his side to Champions League triumph. The forward scored 26 goals in all competitions last season and ended up winning the Premier League golden boot alongside Mohamed Salah and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang.

Since his transfer to Liverpool, the Senegalese International has stood up to the tasks guiding the Reds to collective targets. He is one of the important people in Klopp’s dressing room, who is expected to fare well and compete for the Premier League title once again.

Liverpool will play Manchester City in the Community Shield on August 4th, followed by the Premier League clash against Norwich City and Chelsea’s Super Cup clash in Istanbul.
