"Luka Doncic should stop whining and try handling his business": Kendrick Perkins blasts the Mavericks star for "crying" over the play-in tournament

Kendrick Perkins wants Mavericks star Luka Doncic to stop whining and instead try to get his team to finish in the top six seeds.

There have been many changes in the league this past year, thanks to the deadly global pandemic. Last season, we saw the season concluding at the Walt Disney World Resort. This season too, there has been a different look to the season.

With a shortened 72-game season, no fans, single All-Star day and the newly introduced play-in tournament, this season is one of the most unique campaigns ever.

The new play-in tournament is something that the league introduced to make up for the shortened season. Due to this, teams seeded from 7th all the way to 10th, have a chance at making the postseason. While this is a boon for the lower-placed teams, on the other hand, it seems a bit unfair for the 7th and 8th seeded teams.

Lately, Dallas Mavericks All-Star Luka Doncic revealed his displeasure with the newly added concept. Doncic stated how he didn’t understand the idea of the play-in tournament and didn’t see the point of it at all. Luka expresses himself:

“I don’t understand the idea of the play-in [tournament]. You play 72 games to get in the playoffs, then maybe you lose two in a row and you’re out of the playoffs. I don’t see the point of that.”

“The play-in tournament is a great addition”: Kendrick Perkins

The teams coming in 9th and 10th currently in the West are the Spurs and the Warriors. With the Pelicans at 11th, only 1 game behind GSW, it makes five teams in a close battle for the play-in tournament, making it even more difficult to enter the playoffs.

Analyst Kendrick Perkins believes that the addition of this tournament is a great thing that the NBA did. He stated how the teams will now not take the regular season for granted because of the same. He further asked Doncic to stop complaining regarding the tournament and help his team finish in the top six seeds if he wants to avoid the play-in.

“If Luka is going to do all this crying and whining, what are the babies in the world going to do? I don’t want to hear all that.”

“The play-in tournament is a great thing that the NBA added because you know why? In the past, teams have taken the regular season for granted. Now, if you don’t want to be in the play-in tournament, win games. Finish in those top six seeds.”

“So, if you don’t want to be in the play-in tournament, handle your business and finish in the top six seeds.”

Coming in 7th in the Western Conference, Dallas has an average 29-24 record. Being only 1.5 games behind the Trail Blazers, Dallas will try to make a push to solidify as the top six teams, to avoid the play-in tournament.
