“When I look back, maybe he was right,” says Luke Shaw on Mourinho after he proved to become a revelation at the club in the new season.
Manchester United’s Luke Shaw has made a surprising revelation regarding club manager, Jose Mourinho. The left-back insisted that the gaffer’s critical statements about him have given him the necessary motivation to work harder.
In a recent interview the 23-year old said, “I think he got frustrated with me because he knew I could do better. When I look back, maybe he was right.”
He further added that, “It was a tough few years but it made me stronger mentally. I wanted to prove to him I can do what he said I couldn’t. I had a chat with the manager before the season and he said he wanted me to stay.”
“I have matured. You could say I’ve gone from a kid to a man. I know what I need to do to push myself. I want to play for Manchester United, stay there and prove my worth to the team.”
He also mentioned that his leg injury against PSV in the Champions League in 2015 had taken a mental toll on him and that all the stick that he got alongside the injury pushed him to work harder.

Shaw who had earlier been left out of Mourinho’s squad and was finding time at Old Trafford hard was on Tuesday recalled for the national team for the first time in 18 months. He has been called up for the games against Spain and Switzerland.
“I wanted to prove everyone wrong and get back to what I do best. I need games to get fully fit and motivated. I’m feeling back to my old self,” said the 25-year old.
Shaw began the season on a high note as he scored in the first game against Leicester City to help his team win 2-1 at the Old Trafford.
