Man City team news: City faces Tottenham again on Saturday, as both the sides play in the league. We take a look at the Manchester City predicted line up vs Tottenham.
Manchester City suffered heartbreak in the quarterfinal tie of the Champions League last night.
In an emotionally-charged game, which began with five goals inside the first 21 minutes, the Blues lost out on a place in the semifinal of the competition due to an injury-time goal ruled out for offside.
Raheem Sterling scored two of City’s first three goals and was on course for a hattrick after the host side launched a quick counter-attack. However, Aguero who assisted Sterling, was offside while receiving the pass, and the referee ruled the goal out for offside with VAR referral.
While City’s season in Europe might be over, they have a lot to play for in the league. The battle for the league title has grown intense with each passing fixture, and Guardiola’s side will aim to secure another three points as they take on Tottenham again.
The players must be desperate to bring the smiles back at the Etihad Stadium, and as they prepare for the big clash, we take a look at Man City’s predicted line up.
Manchester City predicted line up vs Tottenham:
Goalkeeper: Ederson
Ederson was partially at fault for Tottenham’s third goal in the game, which ultimately steered them through to the semifinal of the Champions League.
However, the Brazilian goalkeeper has shown his class time and again throughout the season, and Guardiola would want his player to be at his absolute best as the side hosts Tottenham.
Defence: Walker, Stones, Laporte, Mendy
Yesterday’s game was anything but cheerful for defenders on both the sides, as various defensive errors throughout the game cost the sides. Aymeric Laporte made two defensive errors himself, but Guardiola might give him another start this weekend.
He may pair him with John Stones, while Mendy and Walker stay on either wing. Vincent Kompany and Nicolas Otamendi might be on the bench for this game.
Midfield: Fernandinho, De Bruyne, Gundogan
David Silva’s poor performance continues to be a concern for Pep Guardiola as he prepares for the league clash against Spurs. The Spanish midfielder started in the last three games for Manchester City but failed to impress, and it might be time for Guardiola to bench Silva.
Fernandinho is expected to come back into the side, with De Bruyne and Gundogan taking care of attacking duties.
Attack: B. Silva, Aguero, Sterling
Raheem Sterling was lethal for Manchester City against Tottenham and he remains one of their most crucial players as the season reaches its business end.
Sergio Aguero is likely to start as well, as Guardiola realizes the importance of the clash. With Liverpool having a relatively easy set of fixtures in the league, the Manchester City manager is unlikely to bench his best-attacking options at this stage.
