Man Utd news: Key defender out for more than a month due to hamstring injury

Manchester United will be without their defender Luke Shaw for more than a month due to hamstring injury.

Manchester United’s week has gone from bad to worse. Left-back Luke Shaw, who sustained a hamstring injury against Crystal Palace, will be out for more than a month.

The English International had to be shortly replaced after Crystal Palace’s Jordan Ayew found the back of the net in the first half. He was eventually replaced by the experienced campaigner Ashley Young for the rest of the game.

Following the defeat in the hand of the Eagles, Solskjaer was hopeful that the left-back will be back for the game against Southampton.

He said: “We will do the scans tomorrow but he felt something in his hamstring. Hopefully he won’t be too bad and will be back for Southampton.”

But, the scan has indicated that the defender must sit out for a month, according to Daily Mail. With this injury, Luke Shaw is likely to watch his side taken on his old side Southampton, Leicester City, West Ham, and Arsenal from the stands.

Anthony Martial also suffered a hamstring injury against Crystal Palace on Saturday. The Frenchman is yet to retrieve the results of the scan.

However, the Red Devils are optimistic that the injury he suffered is not bad as first feared and the forward is likely to poised for training return in the coming days.

The Norwegian will be hopeful that Martial would make himself available for the long trip down to the Southern Coast to face Southampton in the weekend. Since the Red Devils do not have too many attacking options, former Monaco forward is currently the first-choice forward.

The Manchester side are desperate to pick up a positive result after faltering to Crystal Palace last weekend.

Solskjaer said: “They scored 2 and we scored only one. We just were not clinical enough in front of goal and they scored two very easy goals.

“I thought we got our act together second half, we just couldn’t hit the target. We have dominated the game but we have not controlled it.”

Eric Bailly and Timothy Fosu-Mensah remain on the sidelines with knee injuries.
