Ole Gunnar Solskjaer received a major setback earlier this morning as two Manchester United first-team stars missed training ahead of the Barcelona clash.
Manchester United will take on Barcelona in the first leg of the Champions League tie at Old Trafford on Wednesday. However, the side faced a massive setback ahead of the game.
The side has been dealing with significant injury issues over the last few weeks. Solskjaer was forced to play a second-string side – which miraculously defeated PSG in the second leg of the round-of-16 tie. Romelu Lukaku, Ander Herrera, Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford have all missed games for the side since.
The squad assembled for the training session on Monday morning for the first time ahead of the game against Barcelona. However, journalists noted two glaring absentees during the training.
It was later reported that two first-team stars didn’t participate in the training session at all.
Man Utd team news:
The reports from the training ground suggest that Ander Herrera and Nemanja Matic were missing from the sessions on Monday morning.
Both the players missed the side’s previous game against Wolves in the Premier League, where Manchester United lost 2-1.
This could mean that Scott McTominay and Fred may retain their places in the starting XI for the Barcelona clash. Obviously, this is not the first time when Manchester United fielded a second-choice midfield in the Champions League knock-out clash this season.
Marcus Rashford, however, has resumed training after missing the Wolves clash.
The side faces West Ham United on the weekend before taking on Barcelona again in the Champions League next week. Manchester United are currently at sixth in the league table and cannot afford to lose players at this stage of the season.

Love Ander Herrera. Think he’s been a great servant to the club and I don’t really want him to go, but if his replacement is Tanguy Ndombélé then I’d pack his bags for him & I would drive him to the airport myself. That guy is a baller.

What’s your honest take on Ander Herrera? Should United be paying him the money he wants or are they taking the right stance in not giving him what he wants? https://t.co/zcoceFCb3J
