Diego Simeone to Manchester United

Diego Simeone is on the wanted wishlist for Ed Woodward.

Manchester United have another name to their wishlist following the sack of Jose Mourinho last month. The Portuguese International was shown the exit door following the humiliating defeat to Liverpool at Anfield which proved to be the final game for the former Red Devils manager.

There have been many names linked with the likes of Mauricio Pochettino, Laurent Blanc, and Leonardo Jardim. With the way Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has started his managerial career at Old Trafford, it looks like he might be handed over the long-term project.

But, Ed Woodward has decided to wait to appoint a new manager as he continually looks for many options to pick one among them. According to the English Publication Daily Mirror, it is understood that the Red Devils are currently looking at Atletico Manager manager Diego Simeone.

The Argentine International has been one of the recognized coaches in the world currently after the amount of transition they have had since he took over the Spanish outfit. Since Louis Van Gaal and Jose Mourinho played defensive football and which in turn affected their future at Manchester United, it will be interesting to see if Ed Woodward would appoint another manager who likes to play defensively.

Make no mistake about the trophies he has won, and the amount of transition he has made at Atletico Madrid, but the part of the game is one thing which they might think again.

Currently, Mauricio Pochettino looks out of reach as Daniel Levy is not prepared to let him go even if United make an offer of 50 million to prise him away. He has a contract until 2023 and the release clause is said to more than 40 million which is the stumbling block.

There have not been any concrete links with Zinedine Zidane. Laurent Blanc has a good track record, but he has been without a job over the last four years. Leonardo Jardim is an excellent alternative who looks to build a young side and play attacking football.

Since his move to the Wanda Metropolitano, Simeone has won a Liga Liga, two Europa Leagues, two Copa Del Rey and has reached the Champions League final twice in the last five years. There is no denying his winning ability, but Manchester United and Sir Alex Ferguson are trying to approach a manager who likes to take the game to the opposition half.

Plenty of rumours were rumbling that the Red Devils are also showing an interest on the current England manager Gareth Southgate.

Should they land Deigo Simeone, there is no doubt that they have plenty of players who will suit his philosophy having already played under Van Gaal and Mourinho.
