The Barcelona man sees his deal at the club run out next summer
Ousmane Dembele’s transfer to Barcelona has been an intriguing one. Signing for the club from Borussia Dortmund for an initial 97 million pounds, Dembele has remained an enigma till date.
While its clear that he does possess the talent capable of making him an impactful and influential player, injuries and inconsistency have held him back. The player has remained ruled out for way too long to see him remain what can be called a flop till now at Barcelona.
However, now fully fit, Dembele is showing what he’s capable of when at his 100%. The player has endured a solid season for Barcelona this term, one where he has proved his mettle with goals at crucial junctures.
Its this electric form which has prompted Barcelona to already open negotiations with the player for a contract extension. New president Joan Laporte is said to have prioritised keeping Dembele at the club over other matters with Barcelona steadfastly working in that direction.
However, wage demands are set to be a massive stumbling block for a new deal. Dembele whose current contract at Barcelona runs for the next 16 months is said to be demanding a hefty payday, one Barcelona might find difficult to indulge in.
