Manchester United vs Barcelona match prediction: Who will win today's Man Utd vs Barca clash?

Manchester United will take on Barcelona in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinal later tonight. We take a look at the match prediction.

Manchester United will meet Barcelona in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinal at Old Trafford.

The side pulled out an enormous comeback in the second leg against PSG, as they scored three past the Parisian side to register a 3-1 victory at Parc des Princes.

Manchester United are once again the underdogs in the game against Barcelona. As with their round-of-16 tie, United hosts the first leg.

The side faced a major setback in their preparations for the game as Ander Herrera and Nemanja Matic missed the training sessions, and are most likely unavailable for the game. Barcelona, meanwhile, comes with a full strength squad, with the possibility of Ousmane Dembele getting game-time as well.

Manchester United vs Barcelona match prediction:

Manchester United vs Barcelona – What do the numbers suggest?

Both the sides have come across each other in a competitive environment on 11 occasions. While Manchester United have won three, Barcelona claimed victory in four.

Out of the four games Barcelona won against Manchester United, two include the Champions League finals of 2009 and 2011. In both the games, Pep Guardiola’s side outclassed United, beating them by 2-0 and 3-1 respectively.

In their last game at Old Trafford, Manchester United emerged victorious with a screamer from Paul Scholes. However, the game took place in 2008 – 11 years ago.

This is also the first time when Gerard Pique returns to his former club in Barcelona colours. In 2008, he was with the Manchester United side, which went on to win the Champions League title in the season.

Form:

Barcelona are high on confidence after a significant 2-0 win over Atletico Madrid in the La Liga last weekend. The win has almost ensured another league title for the Catalan giants. Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi were on the scoresheet for the hosts.

Lionel Messi has been on a scintillating run of form. The Argentine star has scored 33 goals in the La Liga alone – netting a whopping 43 goals across all competitions in 40 games.

Manchester United, meanwhile, faced a significant downfall since their win against PSG. The side has conceded defeat in three games out of four since the night at Parc des Princes – which include two losses against Wolves.

Solskjaer’s men will aim to bounce back in the game against Barcelona. The task, however, is difficult.

What we predict:

It is going to be a tough game for Solskjaer’s side. Barcelona are expected to keep the most of the possession, and Manchester United’s defence hardly inspires confidence among the club’s faithful. David De Gea may be in front of the goal, but defensive errors might cost United the game at Old Trafford.
