Mason Mount injured after receiving a horror tackle on his UEFA Champions League debut for Chelsea
Mason Mount injured after receiving a horror tackle on his UEFA Champions League debut for Chelsea against Valencia at the Stamford Bridge.
Mason Mount has been phenomenal for Chelsea this season. With their hands tied by the transfer embargo, the Blues were forced to rely on their young guns. Chelsea may still be finding their feet in the Premier League but quite a few of their youngsters have raised their hands and made the opportunity count.

Mason Mount has been one of those young starlets who have seized this unlikely chance and shown that he is one for the future. He has slowly become one of Frank Lampard’s trusted soldier in the coming season and the Chelsea legend has continued to place his trust in him.
The 20-year was given his Champions league debut tonight against Valencia. However, the dream ended just 16 minutes into the match after a horror challenge from former Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin.

The 20-year old was caught by a rash tackle from Coquelin out of nowhere. The surprisingly aggressive tackle caught him on the side of Mount’s shin who is fortunate not to have his ankles buckled.
Coquelin given yellow for this. ridiculous from him, should be off. https://t.co/HE00yYxOkR

Mason Mount tried to brave the injury and play again. However, the pain was too much for him as he crumbled to the floor once again. He was replaced by Pedro in the 16th minute of the match.
What penalty did Coquelin receive for the damage?
A mere yellow card!
The Valencia midfielder should consider himself lucky not to have been sent off after potentially attacking a fledgling with what could have been a career ender.
Chelsea will host Sunderland this Sunday at the Stamford Bridge. It is very likely that Mount will play no part in that match too.
At half-time both teams are level with both teams still unable to break the deadlock. It remains to be seen how much will Mount’s absence affect the blues in this game; and the ones succeeding it.
