Jose Mourinho was reportedly interested in the Real Madrid midfielder and United made a £54m bid for Mateo Kovacic.

Mateo Kovacic is now the lookout for a new club. The want-away midfielder had an offer from Manchester United, according to reports by Daily Mail. However, the 24 year old flatly rejected an offer from the Red Devils as he does not want to play under Jose Mourinho’s system.

United were ready to offer £54 million for Mateo’s services. However, they’ve been told by Kovacic’s agents to not waste time by trying to pursue him.

The Croat does not have any particular personal feud with Jose Mourinho but feels that his style of football would not be allowed to flourish at the Old Trafford. He is an attacking minded player and does not seem to a fan of Manchester United’s tactics. He is willing to play for a club with more fluidity in their game.

Mateo Kovacic’s rejection is another reality check for the 55 year old boss. He has always had an attitude that has been questioned by many.

Jose has already made clear that he wants at least two signings before the transfer window. United invested heavily in Fred this summer and owe Sanchez heavy wages meaning that they do not have enough liquidity to make expensive signings. The former Chelsea boss is also at loggerheads with Anthony Martial.

The French winger left United’s pre-season dugout in the United States to head home and be with his partner who delivered a baby. Mourinho has reportedly decided to fine him £180,000 for not returning on duty in time.

The player responded on Wednesday by tweeting: “Thank you all for your posts. My little Swan is fine, for the mom it was harder but thanks to God she’s better now.”

‘Sorry but my family will always come first. Back tomorrow in Manchester.’

On a lighter note, there have been news that Mateo Kovacic is being told by Real Madrid that he will not be allowed to leave the club this summer. Julen Lorpetegui believes that the World Cup’s silver medallist has enough talent to fit into his plans for the upcoming season.
