Matthijs De Ligt: Ajax captain makes massive transfer claim amidst Barcelona and Man United interest

Matthijs De Ligt: Ajax captain makes a huge revelation ahead of summer transfer window amidst massive interest from Barcelona and Man United.

Manchester United and Barcelona are in an intense transfer battle over the 19-year-old sensation Matthijs De Ligt from Ajax. However, the young defender has not received a desirable offer from either of the clubs as the Dutch International is demanding significantly high wages.

After having a phenomenal season in Ajax, De Ligt is in the radar of various top clubs. In this transfer pursuit, Barcelona and Manchester United are already at the forefront.

Earlier it was reported that the Dutch Center-back will favour a move to Barcelona as reportedly he earlier mentioned that the playing style of the Catalan club suited him.

However, in an interview with with NOS recently, Matthijs De Ligt squashed all the speculations of Barcelona being his dream club.

“Of course a lot is being written. I think it has been like that all year long and I am not being fooled by it. I am not so worried that so many have been written. Frenkie de Jong already knows that he is going to a new club. Not me yet. That’s it.

“It is not one club that is interested, no. Whether I have a dream club? No, I don’t really have a dream club outside of Ajax. It was always my dream to play at Ajax. I succeeded and I’m happy about that.”

“Well yes (can choose his next club) it’s not just one club that is interested in me. But as long as I am contracted with Ajax I will play for Ajax.”

Thus, giving a major transfer boost to Manchester United, who earlier thought that the Dutch International will eventually sign with the Blaugrana and hence, they withdrew their interest in him.

The Red Devils are heavily interested in De Ligt, as defensive concerns at the Old Trafford are the top most priority for Ole Solskjaer to solve this summer.

Therefore, this sudden statement by De Ligt, re-ignites the fierce contest between Manchester United and Barcelona for the young Ajax Captain.
