Mesut Ozil injury update

Mesut Ozil injury update: Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil suffered a back injury and didn’t feature in the 5-1 win over Fulham.

Arsenal registered their ninth consecutive win in all competitions yesterday, as they thumped Fulham 5-1. The Gunners’ star forwards, Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a brace in Arsenal’s victory.

With this win, Arsenal are now 4th in the Premier League, above on goal difference against their city rivals Tottenham Hotspur. The Gunners are only 2 points behind league leaders Manchester City, who played a goalless draw against Liverpool.

Unai Emery, justifiably, also addressed their chances of winning the Premier League title in the post-match press conference. However, the head-coach urged the squad to not be driven by recent success, and insisted that the team is taking one-match at a time and not thinking about the Premier League title.

Arsenal received a blow before the match against Fulham when Ozil opted out of the match, owing to back spasm. However, the midfielder has now made progress.

Mesut Ozil injury update:

Arsenal manager Unai Emery confirmed after the win against Fulham that Mesut Ozil opted out of the match due to a back injury. “Yesterday he came in with pain and he could not train or play today,” said Emery in the post-match conference.

Mesut Ozil was forced to miss four matches earlier this year due to a similar back problem.

However, there is good news for Arsenal fans. Ben Dinnery, the injury data analyst and freelance journalist who has worked with ESPN, Metro and many reputable English media outlets, now reports that Mesut Ozil has resumed full training.

There will be no league matches this weekend, as the players are on national duty. Mesut Ozil has retired from international football and since has two weeks to fully recover from the back injury.

What next?

Mesut Ozil has not hit top form in this season so far, but his return is a major boost for Arsenal.

The Gunners will return to Premier League action on October 22, when they host Leicester City.
