Moussa Dembele Move To Atletico Madrid: The striker is set to fill in the shoes of the departed Diego Costa

After terminating their contract with Diego Costa in December, six months prior to the completion of his contract at the club, Atletico Madrid took no time to replace the striker.

Linked with a slew of names, Atletico Madrid look to have finally found their replacement. Lyon’s Moussa Dembele is edging ever closer to a deal to the club with Lyon’s head Juninho asserting the contact between the two clubs.

Speaking to Telefoot, Juninho, the club’s sporting director said: “Moussa came to see me. He thinks that this is the moment to change teams, that he has lost a bit of motivation.

“This was not something we foresaw. I like him a lot. Keeping someone who does not really want to keep up the intensity through the next five months – that is not ideal.

“We are in talks with Atletico, I think that Moussa has found an agreement with Atletico.”

Juninho also said that the club was looking at replacements with Islam Slimani being a likely replacement.

“Slimani is a player we appreciate a lot, but he’s one of a few possibilities.

“Halfway through the season, it’s not always easy to find a striker to play for six months or a year and a half. It is expensive.

“We are looking at other players. We spoke with at the start of the season, we had almost reached an agreement. He wants to come and wear our jersey.”

As per reports, Atletico Madrid will be getting Dembele on loan for the remainder of the season with the deal seeing Atletico Madrid have a 30 million pound deal to purchase the striker. Dembele has floundered in form this season for the Ligue 1 side with him scoring just once in 16 matches with his starts restricted to a measly 6 encounters.

Atletico Madrid who are currently atop of the points tally of the La Liga will be ardently wishing that Dembele can rediscover his touch on joining them and become an integral component of their title march.
