The club has joined hands with Merseyside police to spread the word and create awareness among fans who are planning to witness Liverpool’s first match in their title defence of the dangers that await them.
Liverpool fans warned
Per Telegraph, the club has issued a stark warning to fans not to leave their hotels other than to attend the match, nor wear club colours for fear they will be targeted by Napoli fans. The advice includes a warning to fans not to make their own way to the venue. Instead using available shuttle buses – avoiding congregating in groups, and also wearing the correct size belt.
“All belts will be checked and any deemed to have an oversized buckle will be confiscated,” reads the warning.
There were several incidents of Napoli ultras thrashing touring fans outside the San Paolo stadium last season. The club are therefore taking measures to educate their fans to prevent the same to befall them.
Similar warnings were issued last year as well when the two clubs were grouped together. Napoli came out on top vs Liverpool last year.
Liverpool find themselves in a tricky group with Napoli, Genk and Red Bull Salzburg. However, the Reds should be able to qualify for the round of 16. Napoli look good to follow them to the Champions League knock-outs.
