At a recent press conference at the Sonoma Raceway, Joe Gibbs, owner of Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR), made a poignant revelation about racing against Kyle Busch. This confession came in response to a reporter’s question about his feelings on competing against Busch, who has claimed three wins and finished second that day. Last year’s drama revolving around Busch has been well-documented. A chain of events was set off when his primary sponsor, M&M’s, decided to exit the sport, leaving Busch in a precarious situation with Joe Gibbs Racing.

However, the tide turned when Richard Childress Racing entered the picture, offering Busch a lifeline.
Joe Gibbs Expresses Regret Over Decision to Release Kyle Busch
In a moment of introspection, Gibbs opened up about the challenging aftermath of the decision to release champion driver Kyle Busch.
Gibbs remarked, “It’s not fun. We don’t like that, okay? Certainly, we didn’t want that to happen, it did. And he’s a real talent, got such a respect for him and we don’t like racing against Kyle. I think he is gonna win a bunch and we know it. So we gotta work our guts out to try and stay in front of him.”
It was interesting to hear what Joe Gibbs had in mind about the two-time Cup Series champion. Only if Gibbs had managed to keep him in place, they probably could have had a winning season this year.
JGR boss reveals his perception of Kyle Busch’s successor at the team
Ty Gibbs, Joe Gibbs’ grandson and Kyle Busch’s successor on the team, has been relatively quiet since the start of this season, despite generating considerable buzz following his Xfinity series championship win last year, for both his performance and his antics on and off the track. During a recent press conference at Sonoma, Gibbs provided some insight into his grandson’s current mindset and performance.
In his remarks, Gibbs explained, “Yeah, he gets discouraged. He gets mad. He was mad today. Qualified good. I got to tell you, again, that emphasizes I think how hard this is. You try and keep him calm, but he gets revved up. He just really wants to get after it. We’re proud of what he’s done…”
These reflections make it clear that Ty Gibbs faces a challenging road ahead. Yet, the strong support from his team suggests promising prospects for his growth as the season progresses. The question of whether he’s a suitable successor to Kyle Busch is currently far-fetched. It’s simply too soon to make such a claim.
