In an otherwise dry off-season this year, The Donovan Mitchell trade to the Cavaliers gave the NBA fans some reason to cheer about. The blockbuster move involved the Cleveland team parting ways with talents like Collin Sexton, Lauri Markkanen, Ochai Agbaji, and a host of first-round picks to the Utah Jazz.

The Cavs had an impressive start to their campaign, winning the first 8 of their 10-games, with Spida Mitchell blending into the team with ease. The 6ft 1″ guard recorded 30+ points in his first 3-games itself. Unfortunately, the team would hit rough waters in the middle, suffering a 5-games losing streak.

While The Spida had a great run individually, he could never find success post the playoff semi-finals, leading him and the Utah organization to believe it was of mutual interest to part ways.

A New York native himself, rumors indicated Mitchell would be suiting up for the Knicks. However, fate had different plans for the 26-year-old, who would end up in Cleveland, a blessing in disguise.

“What’s done is done, and I’m happy as hell to be where I’m at,” Mitchell told Stefan Bondy of the NY Daily News. “At the end of the day, this decision was made and I don’t think I’ve been happier since I’ve been in the league. But I think for me it’s always going to be motivation to come back and play well in my hometown, but you could say that about anybody. But with what happened this summer, it’s over with, it happened and I’m happy to be with the Cavaliers.”

The Cavs guard has averaged 28.4 PPG, 4.9 APG, 3.9 RPG, and 1.4 SPG so far this season, shooting an impressive 48.8% from the field, including 42.1% from the 3-point line.

The former slam dunk contest winner had signed a 5-year $163 million deal with the Jazz in the 2021-22 season. The Cavs guard, who is worth $20 million has 5-seasons left on his contract.
