6ft 2″ Stephen Curry ‘Hilariously’ Reveals His Stance on Playing Defense 2 Years After Talking About an All-NBA Defensive Selection: “Sometimes”

Stephen Curry is undoubtedly one of the greatest players of the 21st century. An offensive monster, Steph can cook any defense with his incredible handles, shooting, and finishing. However, if there is one thing that happens to be his Achilles heel it is his defense. The Baby-Faced Assassin hasn’t been that impressive on the other side of the court. That being said, he once admitted he would be interested in getting an All-Defensive nod. However, in a recent interview with WIRED when asked if he plays defense, he claims he does, but only sometimes.

In 2021, during a press conference prior to the start of the season, Steph was asked an interesting question by one of the reporters. The reporter wanted to know if they would be seeing an All-Defensive season from the then-three-time NBA Champion. The question obviously excited Curry, who was eager to make the reporter’s question a reality that season.

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry claims he does play defense but only sometimes

Recently, Stephen Curry sat down with WIRED for an Autocomplete interview where he answered a variety of questions. From questions about his family to questions about his favorite moments in the NBA. Steph answered them all. And, one particular question also happened to revolve around his game.

Peeling off the tape on the question board, Curry revealed a question that asked, “Does Stephen Curry play defense?”. An interesting question, and one that the Golden State Warriors star has been asked on a number of occasions.

Being the good sport that he is, Steph answered the question, although he did seem a bit coy. He claims that the answer is “yes”, but he only plays defense sometimes. A response that will certainly spark a debate between his fans and his haters.

“I love that question, it’s a hell of a question. The answer is yes, but sometimes!”

But, jokes aside, Curry has been working hard to improve his craft over the years. His physique has changed a lot since he was drafted in 2009. Going from skinny to built, Steph is continuously adding muscle, making him a more physical presence on the court. A strategy, that while not obvious, has certainly helped him improve on the defensive end.

The Cleveland Cavaliers exploited Steph’s defensive weaknesses to secure the championship in 2016

In 2016, the Golden State Warriors were looking to cap off a record-breaking 73-9 season with a championship. However, LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, and the Cleveland Cavaliers stood in his way. Unfortunately, the Dubs were unable to prevail, and according to Iman Shumpert who was on the Cavs at the time, it may have been because of Stephen Curry.

Appearing on the All the Smok podcast, Shump revealed that the Cavs exploited Steph’s defensive weaknesses in order to get Kyrie free to hit the dagger seven years ago.

To this day, it is considered by many to be one of the greatest shots in NBA history. And, while it is true that the Cavs did exploit Steph’s weakness, it’s safe to say that Steph also recognized the same. Hence, all the work he’s been putting in to improve himself on both ends of the court.
