Months Away From $17,400,000, Shaquille O'Neal Embarrassed an NCAA Investigator Over a 'Phony' Cellphone

Standing at an impressive height of 7 feet 1 inch, Shaquille O’Neal has emerged as a towering figure and one of the most dominant centers in NBA history. Surprisingly, the HBOMAX documentary series reveals that even at the age of 11, the former Lakers center already stood at an astonishing 6’4″. As a young and thriving teenager, Shaq often found himself mistaken for an adult, a testament to his remarkable physical stature.

His height was the most crucial factor in propelling his career ahead in basketball. Shaq excelled in his high school and college teams, leading him to be drafted by the Orlando Magic in 1992. In his book Shaq Talks Back, O’Neal revealed the reason behind his gargantuan figure and colossal height, which has much to do with his family background.

Shaquille O’Neal reveals the secret behind his towering figure

Shaquille O’Neal’s mother, Lucille O’Neal, and her family were from Dublin, Georgia, in the United States. His great-grandmother Cillar O’Neal married his great-grandfather Hilton O’Neal in 1930, at 15. Shaq’s parental lineage has a history of being tall figures, with most of his ancestors averaging above 6 feet. For example, Shaq mentioned in the book Shaq Talks Back how his maternal great-grandfather Hilton was 6 feet 8 inches, while his paternal and maternal grandfathers were also well above 6 feet.

As revealed in the book, Shaq’s mother’s side was primarily agriculturalists. Speaking of his height, Shaq wrote:

“How do I get to be 7’1″? I never met Hilton O’Neal but I was told he was 6’8″ or 6’9″ tall. My grandpa Johnny, on the other side of the family, was a farmer, too. He was also about 6’9″. My mother’s father, Sirlester, is about 6’4″ or 6’5″.”

At 7″1′ height and 320 pounds weight, Shaq became one of the most dominant players in NBA history. No one could guard Shaq once he got the ball in the paint.
