“Damian Lillard should be a Lakers star”: CJ Toledano, former writer of the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, campaigns for Blazers legend to join LeBron James and co
Popular screenwriter CJ Toledano recently expressed his desire to have Damian Lillard on the Lakers roster alongside LeBron James.
Since Portland Trail Blazers’ early-round exit in the 2021 NBA Playoffs, there has been a lot of speculation regarding Lillard’s next move with the franchise.
The former rookie of the year had a career playoff-high in Game five against the Nuggets. Lillard torched a 55-point performance that included 10 assists as he shot an incredible 70.8% from the field and 70.6% from the 3-point line. Despite this, the Blazers lost to the Nuggets in double overtime.
Post his defeat against the Denver Nuggets the Blazers superstar shared a cryptic note on his Instagram page, which sent everyone into a tizzy, suggesting that he wanted out of portland.

Lillard has played all his 9 seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers. Time and again, Lillard has stated his loyalty towards the franchise and the people of Portland.
The Blazers point guard is currently under contract till 2024-25 NBA season. Lillard signed a 4-year $176 million contract extension with the Blazers in 2019.
The Portland team recently hired former LA Clippers assistant coach Chauncey Billups as their new head coach in a 5-year deal. The Blazers management has been doing its best to improve the current situation for their superstar.
How Feasible is Damian Lillard joining LeBron James at the LA Lakers?
Meanwhile, it was reported that the Lakers had expressed a keen interest in Lillard. Though, the LA team does not have the salary space to afford the Blazers superstar. They cannot include their first-round picks in trade as they have to convey those picks to the New Orleans Pelicans as a part of the Anthony Davis deal.
It would also be interesting to know what else the Lakers would have to offer. There are speculations about them trying to trade Kyle Kuzma, Dennis Schroder, and KCP but will the Trail Blazers agree to trade their superstar for these players, who have been underperforming lately.
There is no doubt that Dame Time would fit perfectly on the Lakers roster, who desperately need a point guard that can shoot. The cast of LeBron James and Anthony Davis, coupled with Lillard, would be nothing short of a potential championship team.
Listen, no matter where Dame decides he wants to go, let’s all just agree right now that it should be to the Lakers.

LeBron convinced Dame to do this so I’m sure he could also convince him to come to LA to get a ring. pic.twitter.com/c6b3xSqetK

Teams such as the Miami Heat, New York Knicks, Orlando Magic, and the Golden State Warriors are some of the other teams as well that have expressed an interest in acquiring the Portland superstar.
However, only time will tell if Lillard really wants out as he has time and again mentioned his loyalty towards the franchise.
