Destined to be Worth $2 Billion, Michael Jordan Survived a 'Near Miscarriage' During Deloris' Pregnancy: "There Might be Something Wrong"

Michael Jordan is one of the richest athletes on planet Earth. With a nearly $2 billion net worth, he accumulated his wealth primarily thanks to basketball. However, Michael may have never reached this point nor would his fans have gotten to witness greatness if it weren’t for his mother, Deloris Jordan. After all, it is revealed in Michael Jordan: The Life that she almost lost MJ in a “near miscarriage.”

Deloris had a difficult relationship with her own mother. And, her passing around the time of Michael’s birth had an adverse effect on her. Regardless of their issues, she was her mother, and losing her had sent the matriarch of the Jordan household into a shock. Essentially putting her and an unborn Mike at risk.

Deloris Jordan almost lost Michael Jordan at birth following her mother’s passing

On February 17th, 1963, the world welcomed perhaps one of the most famous people in the world, Michael Jeffrey Jordan. The future NBA legend was born to James Jordan Sr. and his wife Deloris. And, from the moment he was born, his parents knew he would be destined for greatness.

However, just because they knew his destiny does not mean his birth was easy. Michael’s mother Deloris was a strict but fair parent. She loved and cared for all her children equally. But, her relationship with her own mother was far from perfect. Her early pregnancy and marriage led to some issues between them.

However, as the date of Michael Jordan’s birth drew closer, Deloris was hit with some shocking news. Her mother had passed away, and as is the case with most relationships with unresolved issues, she was devastated. So much so, it almost affected her pregnancy leading to a near miscarriage. And, as James Jordan revealed things weren’t looking good, seeing as Mike was born with a nosebleed.

“‘The near miscarriage was very bad,’ James Jordan recalled years later. ‘When Michael was born, we thought there might be something wrong with him,’ James Jordan revealed years later in an interview with the Chicago Tribune. ‘He was born with a nosebleed. The hospital kept him three days after Deloris was discharged. He’d have nosebleeds for no reason until he was five, and then they just stopped.'”

It must have been a scary time in the Jordan household, but it soon passed. 60 years later and now His Airness is not only one of the greatest but also one of the richest athletes alive.

MJ went on to become the GOAT of basketball and now has a whopping $2 billion net worth

As history shows, Michael Jordan went on to become the GOAT of the NBA. Six NBA Championships, five MVPs, and a Defensive Player of the Year later and he was and is the most popular athlete in the history of sports. But, his sporting accomplishments do not compare to the wealth he amassed for himself.

Several endorsements and a particularly lucrative deal with Nike which led to the creation of the Air Jordan brand now have him sitting pretty with a net worth of $2 billion.

He truly is the personification of the acronym GOAT. And, despite the tragedy that surrounded his birth, the world is grateful that it did not rob them of seeing him perform on the NBA stage.
