“Jaxson Hayes needs to be fined for using racial slurs against police officers”: LAPD lobbies for NBA Commissioner Adam Silver to take action against the Pelicans star
LAPD demands that Jaxson Hayes be dealt a hefty fine by the NBA and Adam Silver for using racial slurs against its police officers.
Though the New Orleans Pelicans were gifted Zion Williamson by the ‘lottery gods’ in 2019, not all of their rookies from this draft class have seemed to hit. The Pels used their first overall pick that year to snag a transcendent 27 point per game scorer and their 8th pick to take Texas big man, Jaxson Hayes.
In the two seasons he’s suited up for the Pelicans in limited minutes, he’s shown flashes of becoming a high-flying, defensively adept big. However, his NBA journey hasn’t been without its hiccups as he’s landed himself in trouble a couple times.
In his rookie season, he was not selected to the Rising Stars game that is played at All-Star Weekend. This led him to rant on social media by using derogatory language directed towards officials within the NBA. Merely a year or so later and Jaxson Hayes has found himself quarrelling with officers of the law.
LAPD calls for Jaxson Hayes to be fined by the NBA.
About 4 days ago, LAPD was called to a residence over a domestic dispute. Jaxson Hayes was asked to remain outside while the officers tried to speak with the supposed victim. According to the officers on the scene, Hayes resisted emphatically, leading to him to be pinned down on the ground as well as tased.
During this ordeal, LAPD officers claimed that Hayes spew several racial slurs at them, including the ‘n-word’. The department clearly was not too thrilled with and so wrote a four page letter directed towards the NBA Commissioner, Adam Silver, to fine Jaxson Hayes with $50,000.

The league, on countless occasions, has portrayed themselves to be an organization that does not stand for racially charges crime and/or hate speech. Meyers Leonard was fine and let go by the Miami Heat for using terminology that was detrimental towards the Jewish community. It’ll be interesting to see what the NBA does with this situation.
