The perception on Ben Simmons has been all over the place ever since he entered the league. His ability to playmake while also defend at an extremely high level, mixed in with the fact that he can get to the rim at will on most occasions, make Simmons a force to be reckoned with on any given night.
However, this novelty soon wore off for fans around the league as they lobbied for the Philly star to start stretching the floor and knock down shots from the outside. His reluctance to do so caused a divide within said fans, with fans on one side of the spectrum claiming he needs to shoot or else he cannot progress further as a player, and the other half saying he’s elite as he is.
Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich stays firm in his belief that Ben Simmons is elite as he is, following an old fashioned beatdown at the hands of the Sixers. Others, such as Wizards commentator Justin Kutcher, have a harsher truth for the 6’9 point forward.
Ben Simmons goes off on Justin Kutcher for his comments
In a game against the 76ers, Justin Kutcher let it be known that he does not buy the Ben Simmons hype, claiming he’s overrated and takes the spotlight away from Tobias Harris. He then took to Twitter later that night to double down on his statement.
Yep, I said that Ben Simmons is one of the most overrated plyrs in the NBA, and I stand by it. I didn’t say he was BAD, just not as good as everyone makes him out to be. GREAT defender, potential DPOY, but I think he’s made All League/All Star Teams based on hype. And..goodnight

Simmons hadn’t responded to Kutcher until Philly’s beatdown on Spurs, where a reported asked him how he felt about the ordeal. Simmons, very nonchalantly said, “He’s just a 5’5 commentator for the Wizards. It is what it is. I can’t give it much attention.”
Ben Simmons claps back at the Wizards commentator
“I started scrolling through his Instagram to see who he is. He’s just a 5’5” commentator, so it is what it is.”

Simmons has to have grown immune to hate comments by now as he is a very polarizing athlete. He’s been hit with criticism about his game for years now but this hasn’t stopped him from playing at a DPOY level.
