LeBron James

LeBron James is known for heroics on the court, but in this particular incident, he was a hero off of it, saving Carmelo Anthony’s life.

LeBron and Carmelo have a deep-seated friendship with each other, being part of the ‘banana boat’ squad that wants to eventually play together some day.

The Lakers star is also hoping he can lure away the Trailblazers forward this offseason in an effort to strengthen Los Angeles’ roster.

While such a team-up would be incredible for both Melo and LeBron, there will always be one incident that will outshine anything that these two do together again.

Carmelo Anthony Opens Up To Dwyane Wade About How LeBron James Saved His Life

In one particular adventure with the banana boat crew, things took a very severe turn for the worse as Carmelo Anthony almost ended up drowning.

LeBron, Dwyane Wade, and Carmelo Anthony were all on vacation, cruising around the ocean on a boat. The trio were going ocean diving, and things looked to be fine, until LeBron and Wade got back on the boat and did notice their third pal.

Strong ocean currents were preventing Melo from swimming back to the boat, and he was stranded all alone, in a life threatening situation.

There’s a very real possibility that Melo would have drowned had it not been for LeBron’s keen eye and quick wits. Immediately upon spotting Melo, LeBron jumped into the water to help his friend out.

According to Anthony, James was dragging Melo with one hand while swimming with the other as he said:

“I look up, the current is taking me in the middle of the ocean, like opposite from the boat… and it was windy. All type of s— was going through my head, I’m gonna be honest with you. And then I look up at the boat and I see Bron. Bron jumps off the boat like he is MacGyver. He was bringing me back with one arm. He’s swimming with the other arm and he carrying me with one.”

While this incident must have been incredibly dangerous and scary in the moment, now the two can look back on it as something that brought them closer to each other. They can easily make jokes and laugh it off, but in the moment, there is no doubt that both were panicking to some degree.

LeBron’s alertness and quick response to an emergency helped mitigate what could have been a very tragic day for everyone involved.
