The NBA is ‘hot’. So hot in fact that the season has already seen its 92nd 40-point game, and we are only halfway through it. These performances have put the current season as 9th all-time in the list of seasons with the most 40-point performances. Luka Doncic, Donovan Mitchell, and Giannis Antetokoumpo started this barrage.

We are undoubtedly seeing the greatest scoring swell in the history of basketball. Tonight, an outside performance from Jalen Brunson helped put the whole picture together. We are headed for the inevitable.

The Luka Doncic Effect
Last week we were witness to possibly one of the greatest performances in sports. A 60-point, 20-rebound, 10-assist triple-double to enshrine a 23- year old Luka Doncic into the history books. Forever.
Undoubtedly, Luka Doncic is having a season for the ages. He is leading all scorers as he averages a monstrous 34 points per game this season. Not only that but he is currently the front-runner to win the Michael Jordan MVP trophy.
With stats resembling that of a 2k career mode game, Luka Doncic and his generation are ushering in a new age of elite scorers, possibly the best we have ever seen.
A scoring swell for the ages
New year’s eve saw a set of all-time performances as 22 players scored at least 25 points, with 5 players crossing the 40-point mark while two breached the 50-point mark.
Just when we thought the day was a one-off event, Giannis dropped a career-high 55-point game followed by a Donovan Mitchell 71-point special.
Just 10 weeks into the schedule, there have already been six games of at least 55 points, which is an NBA record for a single season. Though the stats make a picture of just how historic the season maybe what we are experiencing is far greater than words can describe.
With up-and-coming players like Luka Doncic and Ja Morant putting the league on lockdown, the NBA is now officially changing hands as a new generation of weapons takes the floor. How high is the ceiling? We don’t know. But this tweet should very much be a mile marker of where we are headed.
