Marcus Reveals Billionaire Michael Jordan’s Brilliant ‘$100 Incentive’ to Get the Best Out of Him at School

Being a son of one of the greatest personalities on the court comes with certain responsibilities and expectations. Marcus Jordan, son of Michael Jordan, had the same heavy weight of expectation on his shoulders. As such, his upbringing was difficult thanks to how strict his parents were. After all, MJ and Juanita Vanoy wanted their children to succeed. So, as he revealed to Larsa Pippen in the latest episode of Separation Anxiety, the billionaire developed a $100 incentive-based system to help Marcus and his siblings excel.

His Airness was a strict father growing up, as Marcus had a very unique upbringing. However, while it was tough being raised by the greatest player of all time, he still respected his parents’ methods. In fact, when discussing the same, Marcus confessed to Larsa Pippen that he would try to follow their example when he starts raising his own kids.

Marcus Jordan shared the brilliant $100 incentive-based system Michael Jordan created to get him to excel

Growing up in North Carolina, Michael Jordan had a strict upbringing. According to his son Marcus Jordan, the six-time NBA Champion decided to follow suit when it came to raising his own children. However, with his level of fame and wealth, he needed to come up with a unique way to raise his kids.

As such, Marcus and his siblings were given chores. That being said, every child is given chores growing up. But, the Hall of Famer added an extra incentive to help his children excel.

Marcus recalled in an episode of his and Larsa Pippen’s podcast how his parents were very picky about hard work. So, in order to promote the value of hard work, his parents came up with an incentive-based system. As he explained, they were rewarded for the work they did. Whether it was taking out the trash or getting good grades, when they worked hard they got a $100.

“My parents were very picky about working hard to earn what you want. So like, getting good grades…you got…you get rewarded…like $100 bucks for an “A” or something like that. You get rewarded for working hard.”

It was a brilliant system, one that taught Marcus that hard work equaled being rewarded. A lesson he continues to refer even to this day. Whether it is with work or with his relationships.

Marcus Jordan is thankful for being raised outside the “smartphone era”

Marcus Jordan grew up in the 90s and early 2000s, back when his father was the biggest personality in the world. However, despite this, Marcus is thankful for his upbringing. Why? Well, it is because he is grateful for not having been raised in the “smartphone era”. An era that he believes has made it difficult for celebrity children to grow up.

He cited the recent example of Bronny James, and how the USC Trojan made headlines after he was unable to gain access to a party.

He certainly does make a fair point. While smartphones do have their advantages, privacy has become close to non-existent. Something he has become well aware of, given how his relationship with Larsa Pippen has become highly publicized.
