Raptors star Kyle Lowry has played 9 seasons for the Toronto franchise. The point guard is one of the most loved players in Canada, who even played a major part in bringing Toronto their first-ever NBA championship in 2019.
The 6x NBA All-Star in his 9 seasons for the Raptors has averaged 17.5 PPG, 7.1 APG, 4.9 RPG, and 1.5 SPG on a 42.5% shooting from the field.
The Raptors point guard is an unrestricted free agent entering the 2021-22 NBA season. Earlier this year, there were reports of the Raptors trading Lowry, which didn’t materialize.
When asked about Lowry’s future with the franchise, team president Masai Ujiri had the following to say, “I think we all know the respect and the sentiment about Kyle and this ball club, and what he’s done not only for the city, the team, the country, the league.” Ujiri said.
He further added,
“Honestly, our team can go in many different directions. I keep saying it. We are comfortable with whatever direction we go.”
With the off-season kicking off, it will be interesting to see if the Raptors franchise can re-sign their point guard, who would be an unrestricted free agent this off-season.
The odds that Kyle Lowry would join the Lakers?
According to ESPN senior writer Marc J Spears, “If Kyle says, I want to be a Laker, I think Masai Ujiri respects him and helps him make that happen.”
There have been many reports of Rob Pelinka and co engaging in talks with various teams to acquire a point guard their team so desperately needs. According to reports, Kyle is one of the top candidates on their list.
The Toronto Star is a perfect fit on the Lakers roster, who lack an efficient guard. If reports are to be believed, LeBron James and the Lakers front office want their backcourt upgraded from Dennis Schroder and KCP.
One of the major areas responsible for the early-round exit of the Lakers in the 2021 playoffs was its inefficient backcourt. Schroder and KCP shot extremely poorly from the field.
Thus the addition of Kyle would be an instant success for the Lakers. The superstar duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis would finally have someone to rely on. The Toronto star’s championship experience, coupled with his playmaking and shooting, would make the Lakers a top contender in the West.
On, the other hand, former executive of the year Masai Ujiri and Kyle have shared a great bond over the years. Ujiri has, on various occasions expressed his gratitude for the Raptors star and what he’s done for the franchise. Thus should the two should amicably part ways if the situation arises.
