NBA Take Foul: Twitter Reacts to Numerous ‘Take Foul’ Calls In Game 3 of Lakers-Warriors

The Golden State Warriors made their way to Los Angeles to take on the Lakers for Game 3. We saw the Warriors take a 40-29 lead, only to give up a 22-2 run. The Lakers ended the first half with an 11-point lead. One of the things that we keep hearing in the game is take foul. There have been two such calls in the 2nd quarter alone, leaving NBA Twitter fuming.

Let us first answer the question. What is a take foul?

The NBA discussed a take foul, rather a transition take foul during the offseason. It was implemented in the 2022-23 NBA season. According to NBA.com, a transition take foul is a foul in which the defender does not make a play on the ball to stop a transition scoring opportunity (which exists when, following a change in possession, the offensive team is continuously advancing the ball while it has an advantage based on the speed of the play, the position of the defenders or both). The penalty for the same was decided as:

  • One penalty free throw(can be taken by any of the five players present on the floor)
  • Possession for the offensive team
  • Common foul awarded to the defender

NBA Twitter reacts to numerous Take Foul calls during Warriors-Lakers Game 3

During the Warriors-Lakers game, we saw two Take Fouls being called during the 2nd quarter alone. The first one was on Moses Moody, who was also assessed a Flagrant 1 foul.

The second one came later in the quarter. With 1:42 left in the 2nd, D’Angelo Russell went at Stephen Curry, and a take foul was called. NBA Twitter was not pleased seeing all of these calls. People were clearly confused with what the same is.

Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant baffled by rule change

It’s not only the fans but also the players who don’t fully understand what the new foul rule is all about. Back during the Christmas games, when the Warriors were playing Memphis, Kevin Durant took it to Twitter to question share how the take foul still confuses him.

The case was no different for Stephen Curry. In January, when Steph was out with injury, he talked about it with the Warriors broadcasters as well. He shared how they still don’t get it, and just hoped the officials get consistent with the same.

Hopefully, we will see some changes during the offseason to get a clearer picture of the same, instead of players just exploiting these calls.
