“On a Team That Missed 27 Straight 3s!”: Chris Paul Addresses Warriors’ Shooting Woes Against Suns, References 2018 WCF Game 7

The regular season opener between the Golden State Warriors and the Phoenix Suns was a thriller, with the Suns pulling away with a 108- 104 win. Though the game was just the first of the season, fans were treated to a glimpse of what Golden State had to offer with Chris Paul in the lineup. During his post-game presser, CP was even asked about his opinions on the Warriors abysmal shooting for the night.

Paul told the media that he didn’t pay much heed to it, as he was confident in his team’s ability to shoot the ball. CP3 even had to remind the press that he was part of the Rockets when they missed 27 straight shots to lose Game 7 of the 2018 Western Conference Finals. Thus, this performance wasn’t something that stood out to Paul at all.

The Warriors shot themselves in the foot

The Warriors have a lot of things to reflect back after the last game. Not only did Bradley Beal not play the match, the score difference was just four points. The Warriors shot a 10 for 43 from the three-point line (23.3%), one of their worst, along with a field goal percentage of just 35.6%.

These two metrics paint a picture of the night where the Warriors struggled a lot. Chris Paul, who is known to be very open and critical of his team’s performances, was asked during the post-game press conference for his opinions on the Warriors shooting. Paul answered,

“I am really worried about the shooting. You know, I been on a team that missed 27- straight three’s. I don’t think that going to be the case here. Knock on wood. With the shooters that we got and with guys being unselfish and passing up shots. I live with the shots that we got every night”.

Even after a close defeat in the last game, the crowd was surely excited to see their favorite players back in the regular season. Additionally, fans were excited to see CP3 in the Bay with the ball.

CP3 gets chants on the line

Chris Paul is one of the most hated players in Warriors history. The Rockets-Warriors rivalry in the 2010s, really brought Paul to the focus, as the Rockets every year looked like they had the Warrior’s number. Fast forward a few years and Chris Paul is getting cheers and chants at the line.

During the post-game press conference, Paul addressed this,

Yeah it was. Dario [Dario Saric] looked at me and started laughing. I couldn’t help but laugh. That was a first.”

Furthermore, CP3 now having played his first game for the Bay, the media was interested in knowing Paul’s observations about the organization. He said,

“It’s promising cause one thing about teams is you can tell the spirit. Spirit is something you can’t hide. You know, when a guy is frowning or mad or whatnot. So what I am excited about our team, is that our spirit is right”.

No doubt that with Paul in the roster, Dubs Nation is looking more like a title contender. Moreover, with Draymond sitting out for the game, we still have yet to see what the final package for the Dubs is gonna look like.
