"Really out here lookin like Golden State Monta": Kevin Durant compares Lil Durk's mixtape to former Warriors star Monta Ellis

Nets’ star forward Kevin Durant references We Believe Warriors’ Monta Ellis while watching rapper Lil Durk’s workout mixtape.

Today is a big day for the NBA All-Stars. The captains LeBron James and Kevin Durant draft their respective teams tonight, who would participate in the All-Star Game. King James gets the first pick among the starters, as he amassed more votes from the public than KD did. As a result, KD would have the first pick among the reserves.

While LeBron James is an experienced captain, having captained in all years since the start of this format. For KD, it’s his first attempt at the same, and unfortunately, he won’t be able to play in the same.

However, he would not take the draft lightly and expect to build a roster that bolsters his chances of winning the All-Star Game.

Back when Monta Ellis was with the Warriors, he was considered as one of the most lethal scorers in the league. Drafted straight from high school, Ellis won the Most Improved Player award in his third season itself. In his six and a half years with the Dubs, he averaged close to 25 points per game for two years.

Kevin Durant saw a mixtape of Lil Durk working out in the gym on Twitter.  He instantly made a comparison to a former great. The way Lil Durk was seen playing brought back flashes of Monta Ellis when he was in his prime with the Warriors. He said, “Dog really out here lookin like Golden State Monta…. Lil Durk been in that lab.”

It is a big honor KD bestowed upon the rapper. Currently, KD is nursing an injured hamstring muscle and is out for the All-Star Game. He is expected to make a return against the Boston Celtics on March 11th.

The Slim Reaper has only played 7 games with Harden and Irving together and would like to develop on-court chemistry before the playoffs approach. However, in his absence, the Nets have not disappointed, improving to the second-best record in the East.
