“Super Bowl LV was boring, I turned away”: Lakers legend Magic Johnson reveals that he did not watch Tom Brady and his Buccaneers rout Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs
Tom Brady has more rings than the most storied NFL franchises with his triumph at the Super Bowl today. But Magic Johnson apparently didn’t enjoy it.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ defense turned up big time in the biggest game of their careers. They did not allow a single touchdown by the 14-2 Chiefs, whose offense had been humming all season long. Patrick Mahomes attempted some magnificent passes, but almost none of them made their way to their intended target.
On the other hand, the Chiefs’ own defense was in tatters on the night. They had their worst performance in the Patrick Mahomes era yet, not able to contain the marauding runs of the Bucs’ offense. They conceded 4 touchdowns by the middle of the 3rd period, and the game was put beyond doubt.
Mahomes completed just 26 of his 49 passes on the night for a 52.3 passer rating. It’s easily the most forgettable outing ever for the 25-year-old, who was just entering grade school when Brady was winning his first Super Bowl.
Magic Johnson reacts negatively to Super Bowl LV despite Tom Brady making history
All the interceptions that the Buccaneers were effecting meant that the game was a stodgier watch than usual. Magic Johnson felt as much, as he posted this update:
“I have to admit…I turned away because the game was boring and disappointing.”
I have to admit…I turned away because the game was boring and disappointing. 🤦🏿

The victory earned Tom Brady his seventh Vince Lombardi trophy – meaning he’s now more successful than any NFL team there is. There are calls all over Twitter for the Super Bowl’s prize to be renamed in honor of the all-time great. This would be similar in nature to the NBA’s Bill Russell Finals MVP trophy.
