“To make wine more accessible to all people”: Dwyane Wade reveals inspiration behind wine and food experience ‘When We Gather’
Dwyane Wade was one of the era-defining talents of the 21st century in NBA basketball. The 2003 draft pick by the Miami Heat delivered the franchise its first NBA championship and set himself up for stardom early on.
And it was this stardust that attracted LeBron James and Chris Bosh to Miami in 2011. The ‘Heatles’ happened because Flash was THE guy leading the Heat Culture revolution along Miami.

Now retired and set to join the Hall of Fame, Wade has remained in the limelight with various business ventures of his. The Flash remains a stakeholder in the NBA community as a pundit and part-owner of the Utah Jazz.
Beyond his basketball-related ventures, Wade has also entered into the culinary space and tends to the Oenophilics. Wade Cellars, founded in 2014, marked DWade’s entry into the world of wine. And it appears The Flash is setting himself up on an innovative path to success, with the support of his community.
The latest project of Wade Cellar’s, ‘When We Gather’ marks a milestone in Wade’s portfolio as a businessman. The former Heat star has gone to a great extent to involve his community in his venture too.
The uniqueness of Dwyane Wade’s venture is associated with his social commitment
When We Gather is Wade’s wine and food experience from the house of Wade Cellars. The experience encompasses multiple venues and is set to feature across six different cities across the USA.
However, it isn’t the experience that sets ‘When We Gather’ apart from other similar entities in the vino-verse. As Wade puts it, it’s the mission of the brand to be accessible to as many people as possible.
“When We Gather was born out of our mission at Wade Cellars to make wine more accessible to all people. This fall, we’re proud to launch our first tour spotlighting acclaimed Black chefs and sommeliers who are doing just that — creating opportunities for all people to experience the world of wine and food through their lens” revealed Wade of his mission and the plans of his business enterprise.
Quite the mission statement indeed from the aspiring business magnate. They say the quickest way to a man’s heart is through his food, and Wade seems to have chosen that same path toward upliftment in society.
Wade’s links with the African-American community seem to go beyond him too. Dwyane Wade’s son, Zaire Wade has opted to represent his country of origin in a show of solidarity for his roots.
Zaire Wade decided to not represent his country of birth, the USA
Unlike Dwyane Wade, Zaire might not be headed to Olympic glory with Team USA. The eldest of Wade’s children, Zaire, has opted to represent the Democratic Republic of Congo instead.
Not coincidentally, Zaire was the old name of the DR of Congo which shall now be represented by none other than Zaire Wade. This automatically makes Zaire the most popular Congolese basketball star to most.
A failure to make the cut in the NBA doesn’t seem to have hampered Zaire’s confidence regarding a future in basketball. Maybe a starring role for Congo is what sparks a career revival for the young guard.
