What happened to Giannis Antetokounmpo

Giannis, who suffered a right ankle sprain in Game 3, reinjured the same ankle in a clash early in the 2nd quarter of Game 4. He will not return to the game.

The Milwaukee Bucks began the game on the back foot, falling into a 27-15 deficit at one point in the first quarter. Giannis was their only reliable scorer till that point in the game. They went to the bench at the end of the first quarter trailing by 9 points, 31-22.

The Bucks started the 2nd quarter off on a 7-0 run, as Giannis and his supporting cast asserted themselves within the first minute and a half of the period. Erik Spoelstra called a quick timeout to resolve their issues, and the Heat emerged from it with a bucket of their own.

Giannis continued to be on the front foot, however. But in his enthusiasm to attack the rim, he stepped onto Andre Iguodala’s left foot on a drive. This caused him to lose balance and land awkwardly on his already-injured right ankle, and he went to the floor with a scream of pain.

The Greek Freak came back to the floor to shoot his free throws from the foul committed by Iguodala in order to preserve his chances of staying in the game. The Heat then let themselves be fouled by the Bucks in order to let the MVP leave the floor on his own terms.

Despite the treatment that he received, he was ruled out for the rest of the game. He came out back to the bench in tears.
