"Worse Handle Than Russell Westbrook": Shannon Sharpe Gives Scathing Review of Jaylen Brown's 8 Turnover Night

Speaking on Undisputed, Shannon Sharpe went on a rampage against the Boston Celtics’ Jaylen Brown. During the all-important game 7, Jayson Tatum got injured in the first quarter, while Jaylen Brown was poor throughout. Brown committed 8 turnovers, was 8-23 with his shooting, and was yet the Celtics’ highest scorer with 19 points. Shannon Sharpe compared Brown to Russell Westbrook claiming that the 26-year-old had worse handles than the LA Clippers man.

The Celtics lost game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals as tamely as they could. This was after they went down 3-0 in the series, and then fought back to 3-3.

Shannon Sharpe rants against Jaylen Brown after terrible game 7 performance

The Boston Celtics were back to the level they showed during the first 3 games of the series. While Tatum picked up an injury that had him in obvious pain throughout the game, Brown was simply poor on the night.

The Celtics committed 15 turnovers through the game, and 8 came via Jaylen Brown. In a series where Brown was supposed to emerge as a top star, he ended up disappointing his team and fans.

Shannon Sharpe claimed that Brown acted like a turnover machine, claiming that he had told the player to work on his handles last season. Sharpe compared Brown to Westbrook, claiming that the Celtics’ star had worse handles.

He also claimed that while stars such as James Harden turned the ball over while trying something different, Brown could not get even the basics right. Shannon Sharpe concluded by saying that Brown played like a middle-school player, something Skip Bayless seemed to agree with.

“Brown has been a turnover machine. And I asked him last year, don’t work on your shots, work on your handles. Skip, I found somebody who has a worse handle than Russell Westbrook. I don’t think you can debate that anymore Skip Bayless. You know sometimes James Harden turns the ball over because he is trying things. He tries things that are like finding a needle in a haystack. Brown is trying to between the legs, like a high schooler, like a middle schooler. He tried to go behind his back, and the ball kicks off his heel and goes the other way. I am like, ‘Bro, are you serious right now?’ You are an NBA player, a 2nd team All-NBA player, and you have middle school handles.”

What Skip said:

Skip also had something to say, giving his own take on what happened in the shocking game 7. The Miami Heat were congratulated for their outstanding performance as a basketball team, under the guidance of Erik Spoelstra. The Heat successfully limited their opponents to their lowest point total of the entire 102-game season. The Celtics failed to overcome the Heat’s defensive prowess, leading to their demise. It became evident that the Heat’s ability to stifle their opponent’s scoring was a key factor in their victory, solidifying their reputation as a formidable defensive force.

“I want to congratulate the Miami Heat. That is a basketball team, with a basketball coach. Last night, they scored by far their lowest point total of the entire 102 game season and they did not live to tell about it. They lived and died by the 3.”

What next for Jaylen Brown and the Boston Celtics?

It will not be surprising if the front office decides to quit on Brown. The Boston Celtics made the NBA Finals last time around and lost tamely against the Warriors.

In this series, it was common knowledge that the Celtics had the better team, with two young stars capable of winning them games on their own. Despite Jimmy Butler not being at his best in game 7, Caleb Martin’s best-ever Playoff performance meant that the Heat were never threatened on the night.

An incredible 3-point shooting display by the Heat saw them convert 14 of their 28 attempts. The Celtics needed their stars to deliver, something which seemed unlikely right from the first quarter. As things stand, fans can expect a considerable shakedown, and the front office might as well decide to build the team around Tatum for the future.
