"Y'all Think Gary Payton Can Guard Me": Myles B. O'Neal Throws Shade At Shaquille O'Neal Hall of Fame Teammate on IG Story

Myles B. O’Neal is the son of legendary baller Shaquille O’Neal. And being of the same lineage as the Big Aristotle comes with a good helping of confidence. So, when the budding DJ met his father’s former teammate Gary Payton at an event, he asked his followers, “Can The Glove guard me?”.

For those who don’t know, Payton is widely considered one of the greatest defenders of all time. After all, he is a DPOY winner, a steals leader, and a nine-time All-Defensive First Team player. To say the nickname ‘The Glove” is apt would be an understatement.

That is why Myles’ question is so puzzling. Realistically, the 2006 NBA Champion would be all over the first-born son of Shaq. But, at the end of the day, it’s always fun seeing the youngsters throw some shade at the vets.

Myles O’Neal jokingly asks his IG followers if Gary Payton can guard him

In this day and age, it’s not uncommon for people to interact via Instagram. In fact, it’s perhaps the only way the younger generation communicates nowadays. And, with the millions of followers some people have, these interactions are on display for all to see.

Recently, Myles O’Neal displayed a perfect example of this. The eldest son of Shaquille O’Neal is quite the influencer and has over 297,000 followers. Of course, this is primarily a result of his famous father, but Myles is quite affluent in the music space as well.

Recently, the up-and-coming DJ shared some interesting stories via IG. One of them saw him at an event, where he met Hall of Famer Gary Payton. Now, given the legendary status of GP, you would expel Myles to show some respect. After all, Payton was his father’s former teammate. But, instead, he posed a question to his followers asking them whether The Glove would be able to guard him.

It certainly is a ballsy move by Myles. But, one that certainly won’t be interpreted as him “seriously” throwing shade. At the end of the day, it’s just a little bit of friendly banter on O’Neal’s part. Seeing as he is close to Patyton, who played with his father in both Los Angeles and Miami.

Payton won his sole NBA Championship with Shaquille O’Neal on the Miami Heat

Myles’ story will certainly be viewed by many as a bit disrespectful. But, it is doubtful that Gary Payton himself would mind. Especially considering he shares a lot of history with his father Shaquille O’Neal. The Glove had made three appearances in the NBA Finals. And, only found success in 2006.

His first attempt saw him fall to Michael Jordan in 1996, the second was against the 2004 Detroit Pistons, and the third and successful attempt saw him team up with Shaq and Dwyane Wade in Miami.

So, a little bit of shade thrown his way isn’t going to affect him that much. Although, Myles O’Neal should be careful what he asks for, lest GP takes him up on his challenge.
