Neymar suffered an injury when he was in action against Strasbourg.

Paris Saint Germain were comfortable victors when they came up against Strasbourg in the French Cup on Wednesday. Goals from Edinson Cavani and Angel Di Maria was enough to seal the victory and move on to the next round.

However, during that victory in Parc des Princes, they lost their vital player upfront in Neymar to an injury. The Brazilian is supposed to have picked up an injury when he tried a rainbow flick, but the defenders were not ready to watch him post past them. They fouled him outside the box.

It is also understood that Neymar has suffered the recurrence of the metatarsal injury he suffered before. The PSG forward suffered the same injury last year and was forced to miss the last 15 games of the season, including the second leg against Real Madrid in the Champions League Round of 16.

Following the injury which kept him out for rest of the season, Neymar returned to his national team action against Austria in a friendly game before the kick start of the World Cup.

The French outfit published a statement on Thursday regarding Neymar’s injury.

“Initial examinations have revealed a painful recurrence of his injury to the fifth metatarsal of his right foot. The treatment of this injury will depend on how it evolves over the next few days. All options can be envisaged at this time.”

Thomas Tuchel was clearly worried about the injury Neymar suffered last night. The PSG manager was frustrated with the referee refused to blow the whistle when Strasbourg player fouled him for the first time. Officiate played the advantage and Neymar tried the rainbow flick provoked the defender to lunge into him which in turn injured the forward.

“Neymar is worried, because it’s the same foot, the right foot, in the same area. I need to wait for the doctor to give me news about Ney. It’s always complicated [with these kind of injuries]. The referee did not whistle after one tackle, then a second, then a third. After that, he has twisted his foot.”

Strasbourg midfielder Anthony Goncalves said that he does not any sympathy for Neymar because he wants to be the competitor on the pitch.

“It’s his style, but if you play like that don’t complain if you take some knocks after. He’s a great player, and I respect the player he is, but we’re not here so he has fun at our expense. If he wants to have fun, we’ll respond with the weapons we have. We have a jersey to defend. We’re not here for a laugh.” said the French International.

With the recurrence injury, the French outfit are fearing that he would not be available for the crucial round of 16 tie against Manchester United. Should he be ready for fit in six weeks which is the needed timescale for the recovery for this injury, the Brazilian will be featuring in the second leg at least.
