Patrick Mahomes is truly one of a kind. He knows how to win football games from impossible situations and on top of that, he knows how to stay humble upon accomplishing what many can’t even dream of achieving. These factors, along with the fact that he has 2 Super Bowl titles in just 6 seasons, have contributed towards making Patrick one of the most marketable athlete in the competition.

When someone enjoys so much success at such a young age, that athlete is bound to take the value of everything attached to him up by gigantic proportions. Something exactly like that happened when Mahomes’ rookie-card went up for sale. While people were expecting Patrick’s card to rake in the moolah, not many had thought that he will end up shattering GOAT Tom Brady’s card-sale record.

Patrick Mahomes’ rookie card fetched $4.3 Million at an auction in 2021

7x Super Bowl champion Tom Brady’s playoff contenders championship ticket had fetched a whopping $3.8 Million during a private sale, as per ventured.com. With this sale, Brady made his way to the top of the list of NFL stars whose sports cards were sold for the highest amount.

However, Patrick soon displaced Brady from the top spot after his rookie card fetched a whopping $4.3 Million in 2021. The 2017 Auto 1/1 BGS 8.5 Mahomes rookie card is now the most valuable Sports card in NFL history. As it turns out, along with pushing Brady down the list, Patrick also went past NBA GOAT Michael Jordan when it comes to athlete card sales across sports.

Last year, Jordan’s 1997-98 game worn patch card, which also had MJ’s autograph, fetched an enormous $2.7 Million at an auction. However, that’s nowhere near what Mahomes’ rookie card raked in. As it turns out, even Patrick is far-far behind the man whose sports card turned out to be the most expensive one to be ever sold.

Baseball legend Mickey Mantle occupies the top spot on the coveted list. His rookie season card was sold for $12.6 Million last year, as per Heritage Auctions.

Patrick Mahomes has a lot left to achieve in order to become the next Tom Brady

While Patrick might have surpassed Brady on the Sports Card sale list, he still needs to achieve a lot in order to surpass him as an NFL quarterback. Tom finished his career with 7 championship titles which is more than what any single franchise has in its kitty since the Super Bowl came into existence.

While Mahomes sure has shown a lot of promise by guiding his team to 3 Super Bowls and eventually winning two out of them, he would have to maintain TB12 level fitness in order to keep himself going as he gets older. Tom made a lot of sacrifices to earn those titles, right from settling for lower salary, to following a very strict fitness regime for decades.

If Mahomes ends up replicating all that, he might actually end up leaving Tom behind as a signal-caller.
