Derek and Heather Carr’s relationship timeline

Derek met Heather in a restaurant at Fresno State University, where they were both students at the time. Heather was working a shift at BJ’s Brewhouse, a popular pub on campus, when the quarterback walked in. He struck up a conversation with her using one of the most cheesy pickup lines imaginable.

Heather recalled this during an interview with ABC7: “I had diamond earrings in my ear, and I knew I had them both. ‘Why are you only wearing one earring?’ he asked. It also made me check my ears. ‘That’s your pickup line?’ I asked. It worked, so I approached him.

It made Heather laugh, and soon after, they began dating. They got married in a hurry in 2012. Their union occurred during Carr’s two best seasons as a Bulldog, which is no coincidence. The recently wed Carr led Fresno State to a 20-6 record in his final two years at the school while tossing 87 touchdown passes to just 15 interceptions.

Since then, the couple has been blissfully married and is living happily in California. The couple does indeed have kids. Brooklyn Mae, their daughter, is 23 months old, and the other three children are boys: Deakon Derek, 3, Deker Luke, 6, and Dallas Mason, 9.

Dallas was born in August 2013, which brought the couple both happiness and difficulty. Intestinal malrotation, a rare abnormality in which an infant’s intestines become entangled, caused their son to be born eight days early.

The intestines were fixed following three urgent surgeries. Dallas stayed at Children’s Hospital Central California for 23 days before being discharged, and thankfully, he is now healthy.
