Players and their families are no strangers getting booed and harassed by fans. Kelly Stafford has herself been on the reciving end multiple times. But its certainly unheard of getting taunted by an ex-player.

In the midst of the Philadelphia Eagles solidifying their 28-22 victory over the Los Angeles Rams during the divisional round of the NFL playoffs, a former Eagles player apparently took the time to taunt Kelly Stafford and the rest of those in attendance in their box suite seats.
“He was kind of just taunting a little bit, which you understand. He was taunting the whole suite.” Stafford claimed to be fine with the initial taunts, until things escalated.
“He ended up coming into our suite at half time… He asked me how are Philly fans treating you.”
To which she claims to have responded with
“The fans have been great. You, on the other hand, giving the loser sign to my daughters, I don’t really appreciate…I would expect that from an opposing fan. A bad opposing fan and an annoying opposing fan… But from an ex player? When you have gone through it and your family has been in that dynamic, I just don’t understand it.”
A photograph of the former player making a specific hand gesture towards Stafford and the rest of the box then began to circulate online. After seeing the photo, many fans believed it to be none other than the six time pro bowler and Super Bowl champion, Fletcher Cox.
Stafford applauded Philly fans for being supportive
Despite revealing that she was warned about Philly fans, she noted that “…everyone was very kind.” The Eagles fan base has garnered a reputation for being one of if not the most obnoxious and over the top fanbases in the NFL. Considering that Philadelphia was the only team to ever find it necessary to have a jail cell at their stadium, this seems to be more of a matter of fact than opinion.
Thankfully, for both Stafford and her family, they were not subjugated to the harassment that other fans have endured while attending Eagles games. As they were exiting the stadium, she noted that many fans were kind and sympathetic towards her and the family. According to Stafford,
“They were very complementative of Matthew… We didn’t have any issues. Shout out to the Philly fans, I thought y’all were great!”
With Philadelphia currently listed as the betting favorites to win the Super Bowl, here’s to hoping that they can continue to display this class throughout the rest of the playoffs this year.
