Mac Jones Calls On His Inner Patrick Mahomes As He Launches Ball a Massive 70 Yards

Mac Jones isn’t particularly known for his arm strength or athletic ability, but a recent video showing him launching a 70-yard bomb is taking Twitter by storm. Jones seemed to bring out the inner Patrick Mahomes in him, a quarterback known for throwing the ball further than most in the league, and it made for an insane highlight reel. Jones needs to showcase some good arm strength this year in a crucial year for the young Patriots quarterback.

Mac Jones had a solid start to his career. In his rookie season, he looked like he was the best quarterback in a draft class that contained Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields, and Trey Lance. However, his sophomore year wasn’t as exciting. Jones dealt with injuries, and he seemed like he had taken a step back from last season. At one point, Patriot fans were calling for him to be benched in favor of rookie Bailey Zappe. However, if his recent highlight is a note of what’s to come, Jones could be bringing it back this year.

Mac Jones Launches a 70-Yard Dot

Jones came out of Alabama with a lot of positives. He had led the best team in College Football to immense success. His record at Alabama stands at 28-2.

He set several records in his starting year as well. He finished first in FBS history in passing efficiency rating in a season with 203.1, first in FBS history for completion percentage in a season at 77.4%, and first in FBS history for yards per attempt in a season. You can read more about his records here.

However, many seemed to claim that Jones was a product of his system. He had a great supporting cast around him in Alabama, and that’s what led to his success.

As he showed in his rookie year, that wasn’t the case. Sure, he didn’t have the athletic ability of Justin Fields or Trey Lance, or the generational throwing ability of Trevor Lawrence, but he had many positives.

He was efficient with the ball, he had great accuracy, and he limited turnovers. For a Patriots team that likes to run and play defense, it seemed like Jones would be able to perfectly adapt as a young quarterback till he got his feet under him and started to elevate his game.

Of course, all hope isn’t lost yet. Jones has only played two years in the NFL, and with a new season coming up, he will have plenty of opportunities to show he’s improving. His 70-yard dart might be a good indicator of positive things to come.

Jones Imitates Patrick Mahomes with Deep Ball Beauty

If there’s one person Jones was thinking of when he made that deep throw, it had to be Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs quarterback has one of the strongest arms in the NFL, and clearly, Mac Jones was channeling him as he launched the ball.

While Mahomes is regular in making flashy plays, he also has one of the game’s best deep balls. He can regularly throw the ball well past where you would expect him to. Just take a look at this in-game clip:
