“It’ll Cause a $1.25 Million Cap Hit”: Nick Wright Explains How Patrick Mahomes Winning League MVP Is “Actually Bad” For The Chiefs
Patrick Mahomes is the poster boy of the league. The Kansas City quarterback can well and truly do absolutely anything and everything on the football field.
He has the ability to make plays out of nowhere under pressure which has really established the Chiefs as one of the strongest teams in the competition.
Even before the 2022 season began, fans had started referring to the team from Kansas City as legit Super Bowl candidates and so far, the Chiefs haven’t done anything which could prove them wrong.
Although one has to admit that a lot of things are required to be in sync for a team to do as well as the Chiefs, there is no doubt about the fact that a massive amount of credit for the unit’s success has to go to their leader, Magical Mahomes.
His numbers this season have been absolutely sensational. With 4,720 yards, 37 Touchdowns and just 11 interceptions, Patrick has made life extremely tough for the opposition defenses.
As a result, he has emerged as one of the strongest candidates to win league MVP honors this season. However, NFL analyst Nick Wright thinks that if Patrick wins MVP, it might actually end up hurting his team.
Nick Wright reckons Patrick Mahomes winning league MVP will low-key hurt his team
Yes, it sounds a little weird but Nick actually ended up making a lot of sense. In the latest episode of “What’s Wright? With Nick Wright,” Nick claimed that Mahomes will get a $1.25 Million bonus if he wins league MVP which is a tiny bit bad for his team as they would have to take a small cap hit going into the next season.
The analyst explained that there are a few bonuses that are very likely to be earned and at the same time, there are some which are unlikely to be earned. Like if a star Wide Receiver is promised a $1 million bonus if he completes 50 catches, that comes in the likely to be earned category and straightaway, the franchise knows that they would have to take the cap hit for it.
However, if the same receiver is promised a $1 million bonus if he leads the league in TD catches, it falls in the unlikely to be earned category as at the end of the day, only one WR from the entire league is going to have the most number of catches.
Similarly, getting a bonus for winning league MVP falls in the unlikely to be earned category as only one footballer gets the honor and if Mahomes ends up getting it, the Chiefs will bear a $1.25 Million cap hit going into the coming season.
This Sunday, Mahomes’ Chiefs would be up against down and out Broncos and we can expect a thrilling clash.
