Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs, once dislocated his kneecaps while attempting a quarterback sneak. Mahomes returned to the field later in the game despite the terrible incident and spent very little time away from the team. However, as a result of his experience, the former MVP has developed some resistance to QB sneaks.

Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce’s podcast, ‘New Heights,’ recently featured him. The Kansas City quarterback described his harrowing encounter with the Denver Broncos.

Mahomes stated, “I’m like 95% and one kneecap short of being 100%” when asked about his success rate in sneaking in a yard or two. “I believe in the quarterback sneak as well,” he adds, “but you have to watch out for your kneecaps sometimes.”

Mahomes also claimed that his teammates’ reactions were the worst part of the situation. His players were scurrying away from him and gazing at the scene.

The 27-year-old said, “My center is yelling get off me. I can’t move, like. What are you expecting of me? My leg’s back hosts my kneecap.” Fortunately, the X-ray results were negative, and Mahomes quickly returned to the field after only a brief absence of a few weeks.

The Chiefs travelled to Denver in 2019 to play their game. Mahomes and his group led 10 to 6 after cruising through the first quarter. However, the 27-year-old attempted to smuggle the ball into a first down on a 4th & 1 close to the Broncos’ red zone. Mahomes was placed in an awkward situation when an opposing defender fell directly on top of him.

The quarterback continued, “I remember being on the ground and just looking at it and finding my kneecap in the side of my calf and not knowing what to do, so I just froze up.” The Chiefs and Andy Reid have avoided the play ever since the incident. Therefore, the quarterback’s throwing ability alone suffices the majority of the time.

One might ponder whether or not the former MVP will ever try it again. The team also claims that they haven’t entirely put the QB sneak out of their minds.
